The cha cha teng is a cherished element of Hong Kong’s unique culinary culture, fusing the East and West in comforting dishes that we adore.
Newcomer NOOK in Quarry Barry, a member of the Singular Concepts portfolio, is spicing up the cha chaan teng landscape with its blend of Cantonese and international influences.
With a design and menu combining elements of both old and new and East and West, signature plates offered at the trendy new café include truffle siu mai (HKD29/4pcs), Yeung Chow quesadilla (HKD90), where Mexico meets Hong Kong in a dish featuring char siu, shrimp, and choy sum with béchamel and cheese, and dry noodles with satay Wagyu beef (HKD78), starring M4 Australian Wagyu alongside local noodles, satay and French peppercorn sauces, and seasonal veg.
NOOK’s prices are very affordable, with breakfast combos priced from HKD29 and lunch and afternoon tea sets coming with a HKD10 upgrade to include either a hot drink or canned/bottled soft drink.
Speaking of beverages, NOOK’s drinks menu has also been modernised from your standard cha chaan teng. At the Quarry bay café, diners can order red and white wine, Prosecco, draught beer, and signature cocktails the likes of Lady Plum (HKD88), a carbonated blend of salted plum whisky and honey.
Notably, a portion of NOOK’s profits will be donated to the Cambodian Children’s Fund, which aids the underprivileged in the Southeast Asian country.
