Dang Wen Li, the revolutionary dessert store opened by famed pastry chef Dominique Ansel, announced on Instagram today (Jan. 8) the closure of their three Hong Kong stores on Jan. 31.
“The time has come for us to bid farewell (at least for now), with the hopes that we will all meet again soon,” reads the announcement on their official Instagram page. “We are proud and honoured to have had an opportunity to welcome you and share what we do here in Hong Kong through some difficult times, and supporting it through spreading simple joy in pastries.”
Dang Wen Li was popular in Hong Kong for creative dessert creations including Yakult-inspired cookie shots, pineapple-bun mousse cake, and edible lemon-tea juice boxes.
The three Dang Wen Li shops at Harbour City, H Queen’s, and Pacific Place will officially close on Jan. 31. Those holding vouchers are advised to visit before the end of the month for redemption.
Chef Dominique Ansel opened Dang Wen Li in Hong Kong in late 2019 to celebrate his work as an innovative pastry chef, with inspirations from Hong Kong and Asian dessert culture. He is responsible for creating the legendary cronut.
Full statement of Dang Wen Li closure
“It was almost five years ago that we created Dang Wen Li, a brand dedicated to and celebrating Hong Kong. From cookie chots that look like Yakult bottles from our childhoods to hot chestnut madeleines, pineapple-bun mousse cakes, and peanut-mochi chaussons, we have loved making pastries that celebrated a city we love.
The time has come for us to bid farewell (at least for now), with the hopes that we will all meet again soon. We are proud and honored to have had an opportunity to welcome you and share what we do here in Hong Kong through some difficult times, and supporting it through spreading simple joy in pastries.
To our dear friends who are still holding Dang Wen Li vouchers, please visit our shops before the end of the month to redeem our delicious creations! If you need further assistance, please contact our customer service via info@dangwenli.com or at +852 9860 5003. And thank you, to all our wonderful guests, for welcoming and supporting us through these years.”
