Shenzhen’s cherished barbecue chain Muwu BBQ has announced the opening of its first Hong Kong store in Mong Kok on Apr. 15, entering the city’s market after dominating China for two decades.

Born in Shenzhen in 2004, Muwu BBQ offers affordable skewers and other barbecue items, operating in 20 cities across mainland China, including Guangzhou, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Beijing.

In a deal brokered by InvestHK, the barbecue chain will be opening up in mid-April in Mong Kok, before moving over to Shek Tong Tsui with a second location in May.

The chain dominates Shenzhen in the barbecue market, with the second- and third-most locations in Guangzhou and Shanghai, respectively.

“This shows not only the company’s confidence in the city’s vibrant food and beverage industry, but also its commitment to expand globally via Hong Kong,” says Jimmy Chiang, the associate director-general of investment promotion for InvestHK.

The Hong Kong move signifies the determination to dominate the regional market and international destinations with fiery and spicy barbecue.
