Japan’s famous Matsuya gyumeshi (beef on rice) restaurant chain has officially opened its first Hong Kong store in Jordan.

The affordable restaurant has served Japan since 1966, expanding to more than 1,200 stores nationwide and 18 overseas. Matsuya specialises in gyudon (beef rice bowls) starting at just HKD29 for a small bowl, beef and chicken curry rice, and grilled beef dishes.

All beef used at the restaurant is New Zealand grass-fed rib-eye, and the eggs are from Japan. The Jordan restaurant has 45 seats and suits a quick meal for lunch or dinner.

“Hong Kong people like eating out, and Japanese dining is very popular here. We hope to provide high-quality food and service, ensuring satisfaction for the people of Hong Kong with Matsuya’s products,” Jun Hamanom, managing director of Matsuya Foods Hong Kong Co Limited, states in a press release.

For fans of the chain, there’s no need to sweat if you can’t travel to Jordan for a gyudon meal or if the queues at Matsuya are too long – the company has announced the opening of a second Hong Kong location later this year.
