When it comes to Halloween here at Foodie, we’re definitely more interested in the treats, but we do appreciate the spots that also have a trick or two up their sleeves…

Aqua – Devil’s Heaven night brunch & Halloween party

Devil’s Heaven night brunch & Halloween party at Aqua

As usual, Aqua is pulling out all the stops when it comes to Halloween wining and dining. First things first, start with a slap-up night brunch showcasing a spread of the Italian-Japanese restaurant’s signature bites, along with unlimited pours of Veuve Clicquot champagne and sake (not to mention the stunning harbour views). Then it’s no holds barred for the Devil’s Heaven Halloween party featuring petrifying performances (including contortionists) and “heaven” and “hell” DJ rooms. In terms of the fancy dress, it’s either angelic white or devilish red all the way.

Hjem – Halloween afternoon tea

Halloween afternoon tea at Hjem

Back this year by popular demand, Hjem’s Halloween-inspired afternoon tea set is quite a fun treat for both grown-ups and kidlets alike. Traditional Nordic bites including the café’s signature smørrebrød, Norwegian waffle and toast with brown cheese and jam make their usual appearances in the three-tiered set, but it’s the middle section that’s been given a Halloween makeover – there’s a buckwheat-chocolate cookie dubbed Cookie Monster and lingonberry cupcake and cinnamon and cardamom bun with spooky effects. The set comes with one tea of choice for each diner plus a pumpkin spice latte or, for a boozy upgrade, the scarlet-hued Blinding Lights, Hjem’s Halloween cocktail made with Campari, Gustav Arctic lingonberry liqueur, lingonberry, lemon, orange bitters and cherry soda.

Where: 161 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan

When: 28 October–4 November 2023 (Tuesday–Sunday, 3–6pm)

ICHU Hong Kong – Momia Azteca night brunch & Halloween party

Momia Azteca Halloween celebrations at ICHU Hong Kong

There’s a wide range of Halloween happenings this year at Peruvian-Japanese hotspot ICHU, kicking off with a relatively low-key daytime brunch offering a selection of sharing-style crudos, starters, anticucho skewers and mains. But it’s the night brunch by Chef Andres Rendón that’ll really get you into an All Hallows’ Eve state of mind. On the menu are premium Nikkei dishes like ceviche, salmon tiradito, truffle scallop, red snapper and a surprise Halloween-inspired dessert. Post-dinner, it’s time to head to the terrace alongside DJs Piesta, Jane Ki and Bennie Blanco, with live trumpet and percussion performances by musicians Aymen and Makka and makeup artists on hand to transform guests into the Aztec demons of their nightmares.

Pirata Group – Family Trick-or-Treat

Family Trick-or-Treat by Pirata Group

We’re all about family-friendly events here at Foodie, and Pirata Group’s Family Trick-or-Trick extravaganza ticks all the right fam-bam boxes (Starstreet Precinct in Wanchai is a great location choice – we love its vibrant, neighbourhood-like vibe). On the day, Pirata restaurants in the ‘hood (Pici, The Pizza Project and TMK Rap & Rolls), along with neighbours Matchali, FRANCIS and Salvo, will be handing out free sweets to trick-or-treating kiddos, while supplies last.
