Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. at The Peak is the closest thing we have to revisiting the life of fictional character Forrest Gump from the eponymous movie that broke cinemas 30 years ago.
The restaurant chain, the world’s first and only created after a major motion picture, is themed on “Gump’s life, philosophy, and love of shrimp,” with the menu, interior, server uniforms, and memorabilia taking on the spirit of the jovial film character.
Just like Bubba, Forrest Gump’s companion during the Vietnam War, says, shrimp is versatile, and this is very much the case at The Peak restaurant. Start off with the Cajun shrimp (HKD138) and Run Across America sampler (HKD248) for a taste of the salty sea.
From there, the shrimp New Orleans (HKD208), Jenny’s catch with lobster sauce (HKD208), and Lt. Dan’s surf and turf (HKD328) are big winners for mains. Like the movie, each stage of Forrest’s life is touched upon somewhere on the menu.
As Bubba’s famous quote goes, “Anyway, like I was sayin’, shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it. Dey’s uh, shrimp kebabs, shrimp Creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan-fried, deep-fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That, that’s about it.”
