Hot on the heels of their Asia’s 50 Best and Michelin accolades, Hong Kong’s fine-dining Cantonese restaurants WING and The Chairman have secured impressive positions on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list.

Announced at an awards ceremony held yesterday at Wynn Las Vegas, WING by chef Vicky Cheng makes its grand debut on the list at number 20, clinching the Highest New Entry Award. This mirror’s the restaurant’s recognition on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 list as the winner of the Highest Climber Award.

Just a few spots below, Danny Yip’s The Chairman comes in at number 26 this year on The World’s 50 Best, ascending from number 50 in 2023 and also taking home the Highest Climber Award.

In terms of the Lion City, Singapore’s Odette lands at 24, whilst our Southeast Asian neighbour Thailand is mighty in Bangkok, with Gaggan sitting just inside the top 10 at number 9, Sühring at 23, Sorn taking 38, and Le Du not far behind at 40.

Japan is another powerful Asian nation on the list. Asia’s number 1 restaurant, SÉZANNE in Tokyo, ranks at a very respectable number 15 when compared to its worldly peers. Also from Toyko are Florilège (21) and Den (32). Mingles (44) in Seoul is the lone South Korean entry this year.

Spain dominates the top portion of the global list this year. The number 1 spot has been awarded to Disfrutar in Barcelona, followed by another Spanish restaurant, Asador Extebarri in Bizkaia. Making up the rest of the top five, France’s Table by Bruno Verjus in Paris stands at number 3, Spain’s DiverXO in Madrid takes the number 4 spot, and Peru’s Maido in Lima clinches number 5.
