Jump on the MTR to Tai Wai Station, walk along Chik Wan Street, lug yourself up the hill, and find the eclectic Shatin Inn Restaurant, a rare Indonesian spot serving the perfect satay and traditional dishes for those adventurous enough to find the restaurant.

The eatery is worth the hike up the hill and holds an equal number of tables outside and in the air-conned interior, making the Indonesian restaurant a well-suited option for pre- or post-hiking in the Sha Tin area.

The menu is short but authentic with its fiery chilli and aromatic peanut touches. Order skewers of either pork, lamb, beef, or chicken satay (from HKD110/5pcs) to begin.

We also recommend the deep-fried samosa (HKD45) and deep-fried chicken wings (HKD40) for starters, before diving deep into spice with the classic Indonesian peanut sauce and vegetable salad gado gado (HKD70), beef rendang (HKD125), and nasi goreng (HKD90).
